Style Notes
This blue suzani cushion was inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. It is a mysterious wonder, whose existence is often disputed by historians is said to be built by King Nebuchadnezzar to cheer up his homesick wife, Amyitis. They were described as “vaulted terraces raised one above another, and resting upon cube-shaped pillars." For Babylon, a city that rarely received rain, a garden of such height and splendour meant that the water had to be carried from the nearby river. Not only was building such a garden in that time was immense effort, sustaining it required extra care. The blue suzani cushion 's flowers, leaves and the water of the gardens are reflected on the cushions in this collection.
